Welcome to the historical DVOA archive!

What we have on this page is a treasure trove of past DVOA and DYAR stats for FTN subscribers. Eventually the stats listed below will include both the regular season and the playoffs going all the way back to 1981.

You'll find stats for 2023 on the website itself. To see all splits for 2023 (including DVOA by down, by zone on field, by quarter, and so on) look in the Almanac/DVOA dropdown menu and click on Download 2023 DVOA Splits. That file is updated on Monday and Tuesday mornings.

Please download for your own use and do not share the workbooks publicly.

Here's what you will find in these workbooks:

ALL BASIC DVOA STATS 1981-2022

  • Total DVOA with past schedule, variance, estimated wins, and Pythagorean wins.
  • Offensive DVOA with run/pass splits. (Remember, scrambles are passes for the purposes of team DVOA!)
  • Defensive DVOA with run/pass splits.
  • Special Teams DVOA with values in the five main categories of special teams.
  • Offense, defense, special teams, and total DVOA including the playoffs.

DVOA AS OF WEEK X 2010-2022

Shows what DVOA looked like as of any week since 2010. DVOA is based on the current version and shows what the numbers would have looked like based solely on opponent adjustments up to that week of the season. Opponent adjustments begin after Week 4 at 40% and increase 10% each week until they reach 100% after Week 10.

PLAYER STATS

  • Players with full names and GSIS IDs where available.
  • DVOA and DYAR for passing, rushing, and receiving.
  • You'll also find YAC and ALEX since 2005 as well as ESPN QBR for 2006-2022.
  • In individual years: any rushing stats for tight ends will be found on the wide receivers page.

Individual year pages do not have ranks. In a normal full season (i.e. not 1982 or 1987), the following are considered the minimums for qualification to be ranked:

  • Passing: 200 pass plays (including sacks)
  • Run QB: 8 carries
  • Run RB: 100 carries
  • Run WR: 5 carries
  • Rec RB: 25 targets
  • Rec WR: 50 targets
  • Rec TE: 25 targets

These stats are regular-season only. 1987 strike games are not included.

TEAM STATS

  • Total DVOA with past schedule, variance, estimated wins, and Pythagorean wins.
  • Offensive DVOA with run/pass splits. (Remember, scrambles are passes for the purposes of team DVOA!)
  • Defensive DVOA with run/pass splits.
  • Special Teams DVOA with values in the five main categories of special teams.
  • PGWE for each individual game in a given season. Note that three different PGWE numbers are listed on each page. You want the third one, which is a weighted average of the other two formulas.
  • Week-by-week DVOA for each individual game in a given season including not just offense/defense splits but run/pass splits.
  • DVOA by down and play (pass or run).
  • DVOA by down and distance.
  • DVOA and yards per play for shotgun vs. under center plays.
  • DVOA by quarter and half (and “late and close” which is any play in the second half with the score within 8 points).
  • DVOA by current score gap
  • DVOA by zone of field (split into 20-yard zones)
  • DVOA trends (weighted run/pass splits and DVOA split into Weeks 1-9 and Weeks 10-17)
  • DVOA home vs. road
  • Adjusted line yards, adjusted sack rate, and other offensive and defensive line stats (since 1996).
  • Adjusted line yards and frequency of run by direction.
  • Defense vs. types of receivers (since 1999) and vs. pass direction (since 2005).
  • The team workbooks feature one player stat as well: Quarterback DYAR and DVOA split into left/middle/right and short/deep (since 2005). Yes, we know it is weird these numbers are in the team workbooks and not the player workbooks.

These stats are regular-season only. 1987 strike games are not included.

PLAYOFF STATS

  • Single-game DVOA for the playoffs.
  • DVOA for the regular season and playoffs combined.
  • DVOA for the playoffs only.
  • All player stats for that given year's playoffs.

Stats are explained further in the DVOA Explainer!
