The NHL is back. Well, almost. The puck drops on the 2021 regular season Jan. 13 for a 56-game regular season where teams will compete only in their division until the league semifinals in the playoffs.

The divisions have been realigned to accommodate travel issues between the USA and Canada. The new North Division should make for a lot of excitement in the fan base north of the border — there have not been four Canadian teams in the NHL Playoffs since 2017, but this is a certainty with the playoff format in 2021. The Edmonton Oilers, Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs appear to be the leaders of the division, with the Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks and Winnipeg Jets battling for the final playoff spot.
