2021 NFL Fantasy Football Fades List

When it comes to fantasy football, and specifically high-stakes fantasy football, it is all about taking stands. Each and every year, I produce my “Fades List” that changes throughout the offseason as ADP's, news, injuries, and other information filters in. Taking stands on certain players is what separates you from the pack, and allows you to propel up the leaderboards should your opponents have the disappointing players, while you rise up the standings with the pivots.

Without further ado, let's take a look at my initial “Fades List” for the 2021 fantasy football drafting season.

List is subject to change throughout the offseason. This list is not for the faint of heart, but we must take stands in high-stakes fantasy football.

Too much uncertainty with Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay. If he sits or is traded, it would be a huge impact to Davante Adams. Derrick Henry is my guy, but he will have to defy history with a coaching change and coming off career year with no receiving upside, and I would rather be a year early than a year late. It was a monster rookie year for Justin Jefferson, but he's now going in the second round ahead of several accomplished elite WRs. Defenses won't be caught off guard this year. More downside than upside at current ADP. Kyle Pitts is simply going to be overdrafted, especially after Julio Jones gets traded. I love the talent, but not for the price and what you can expect from a rookie tight end. Logan Thomas is another player coming off a career year. With Ryan Fitzpatrick in town, I expect Thomas to regress while Terry McLaurin goes to the moon. Josh Jacobs to me is a "soft" running back and now has Kenyan Drake to contend with, and their O-line is trash. Not interested. Taysom Hill as the starter is bad news for Alvin Kamara (for both receiving and red-zone work). Jameis Winston also has been on the low end targeting RBs in his career. I like D'Andre Swift's talent and O-line, but his ADP doesn't feel right this year. Bad team, bad coaching, Jamaal Williams around now and not much talent around him to keep defenses from targeting him. David Montgomery is due to regress. Tarik Cohen will be back, and the Bears signed Damien Williams. Javonte Williams, Melvin Gordon, James Robinson and Raheem Mostert all have added competition. Those are headaches I'm avoiding in the first six rounds. Myles Gaskin and Mike Davis -- One of my rules: Never draft a back in the first four rounds who was a waiver wire pickup the year before. Kenny Golladay and Will Fuller -- Another of my rules is to avoid high-ADP free agent receivers in their first year on a new team. DeAndre Hopkins, Stefon Diggs and Robby Anderson made me look silly last year, but history shows they were exceptions. Diontae Johnson -- I would have felt better about Johnson if JuJu Smith-Schuster wasn't back. He has to contend with JuJu and Chase Claypool, and the Steelers drafted Najee Harris, so there will be more focus on run game. Something has to give, and he's the most expensive. Jalen Hurts definitely has upside, but he's going to be drafted at a point in the draft that I will already have Dak Prescott, Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson or I would rather just wait and draft Joe Burrow or Tom Brady or punt altogether. (It's worth noting that Hurts' ADP is not as high now as it was in May drafts, so there's an argument for pulling the trigger at a lower price.) In fact, if anyone on this list falls to the eighth round or lower, there is nothing wrong with drafting them – Will Fuller, Melvin Gordon, Raheem Mostert and the QBs stand out. Saquon Barkley had major injury, ACL, meniscus repair. the O-line is not improved although skill position is. I'm Not interested in the first year off surgery. If Melvin Gordon gets released or traded, both he and Javonte Williams gain value and should be drafted at current ADP (pending where Gordon lands). Removed Rodgers and Adams from the fades list, with Aaron Rodgers back! Added Julio and Sutton. Getting bad vibes in run-heavy offense and not clear #1 WR. Removed Logan Thomas from fades list, he's been going late enough to make him a value. Added Dallas Goedert, as Ertz looks to be staying in PHI and will be involved on offense. Removed Diontae and added Claypool. I think Claypool will be the odd man out in a crowded offense for touches. Added Travis Etienne and removed James Robiinson. Never a good thing when a skill position suffers a Lisfranc injury. No matter how mild, it is going to affect him this year. Removed Javonte Williams. Looks like Broncos were showcasing Melvin Gordon, I'm going to get exposure in case they move Gordon. I will now draft Kyle Pitts at the right price.
