Week 5 of the Hall of Fantasy league is behind us as we officially move on to the first week of the NFL season with teams on a bye (Niners, Jets). This means that some teams will have to adjust their lineups and rely on the depth of their benches, adding a wrinkle into their matchups.
If you are unfamiliar with the league, they do a fantastic job of laying everything out clearly and concisely on their homepage:
“The HOFL consists of 10 Football Franchises representing key markets throughout the U.S. Teams will be managed by a dedicated Front Office of fantasy experts who will compete on behalf of their respective Stakeholders.”
For more information, I wrote up the ins and outs of the entire league, including who is involved. You can read it here.
In regards to this piece, in particular, this will be a weekly piece highlighting where things stand in the league and a matchup to look forward to in the upcoming week.
The biggest draw to the HOFL is a fan’s ability to stake a team and have skin in the game without needing to keep up with the day-to-day management. Below is a reminder as to where teams ranked heading into the season in terms of the total stake, with the Vegas Pocket Kings being the league leaders.
Week 5’s matchup of the week featured two teams fighting to move above .500, as the Ohio GOATs and the Boston Barflies squared off in a tightly-projected game.
The entire box score is below.
Week 4 Recap - Hall of Fantasy League
This game featured a ton of fireworks, as the Barflies scored over 150 points and still lost by over 30 thanks to so many ceiling games for the GOATs.
The Barflies finally got a productive game out of Robert Woods but were unable to overcome the down games that they got from Jared Cook, DJ Moore, Jamaal Williams and Jaylen Waddle. On the other side, the GOATs had at least 20 fantasy points from five separate players on their roster, capitalizing on extremely productive outings.
After their matchup, the Ohio GOATs moved to 3-2, while the Boston Barflies dropped to 2-3-0. Below is a snapshot of how the entire league is shaking out:
NY Bodega Cats

While there’s still very little space between teams, there’s less of a mosh-pit in the middle now that teams have separated themselves (for better or worse) from the 2-2 pack that cluttered the league ahead of Week 5. The Hotwings remain the sole undefeated team, but it’s FTN’s Jeff Ratcliffe (Chicago Hogmollies) who leads the lead in overall points scored (904).
Week 6 gives teams yet another chance to separate themselves, as those that moved to 3-2 will look to gain some momentum, while the Hotwings and Hogmollies will look to continue their dominance at the top of the standings.
Matchup of the Week - Week 6 - Hall of Fantasy League
Despite being on different ends of the spectrum in terms of their overall record, the matchup between the NY Bodega Cats (3-2, 140.69) and the LA Sidekicks (1-4, 141.56) is the tightest-projected game on the slate this week.
A win for the Sidekicks would put them right back in the thick of things, while a loss only buries them further down the standings. Below is the matchup preview, with the Bodega Cats listed on the left and the Sidekicks on the right.
Three of the four quarterbacks in this matchup find themselves at the top-end of the scoring leaders at the position, which primes this game for a photo finish and provides a great explanation for the tight spread.
Week 6 Overview - Hall of Fantasy League
Looking at the league as a whole, below is a preview of the other Week 6 matchups outside of the matchup of the week.
With so much stake on the line, every week counts. Will teams make a statement and separate themselves, or will they sink in Week 6 and make it even harder to climb out of the hole at the bottom of the standings?
