Streaming QBs for Week 3 in fantasy football

It was a pretty outrageous week for NFL overs and for streaming QBs, or QBs in general, in Week 2. A whopping 16 quarterbacks had at least 20 fantasy points, which means starting someone who didn’t get the memo ( Joe Burrow , Justin Fields , Trevor Lawrence to name a few), lost you some ground to your opponent. Still, Week 2 was a great bounceback for fantasy football after a bit of disappointing Week 1, so let’s hope the momentum keeps rolling as we take a look at streaming QBs for Week 3 in fantasy football.

For the remainder of the season, we’ll take a look at QBs with a roster percentage lower than 70% on ESPN. I’ll walk through a few good options for 10- and 12-team leagues, and I’ll throw in a couple or flyers for superflex leagues or deeper leagues along with a guideline for FAAB spending. Take the FAAB recommendation with a grain of salt though, as every leagues’ managers spend their money differently. Most importantly, you can’t carry FAAB into next season (in most leagues), so empty out your wallet as you see fit.

Now, let’s take a look ahead and evaluate which waiver wire quarterbacks can give us the most bang for our buck.

10- and 12-Team Leagues Brock Purdy (60%) vs. New York Giants San Francisco 49ers (-11) vs. New York Giants, O/U 45 49ers Projected Points: 28

On short rest, the Niners host a Giants team that used a ton of energy to overcome a 20-point second-half deficit in Week 2. The 11-point spread implies that San Francisco should have no issue handling the G-Men, but what’s better is the 28 implied points for Brock Purdy ’s offense. Kyle Shanahan gets creative enough for those points to get distributed to all of San Francisco’s offensive weapons and while they all compete with each other, Purdy will reap the benefits of having them. After all, he’s working with a much better supporting cast than Joshua Dobbs , who just torched this New York defense for 25 fantasy points. Don’t be afraid to roll Purdy back out there in a great spot.

FAAB: 4-5%

Jared Goff (52%) vs. Atlanta Falcons Detroit Lions (-3.5) vs. Atlanta Falcons, O/U 45.5 Lions Projected Points: 24.5

Are the Lions playing at home? Yes? Start Jared Goff . I – and plenty others here at FTN – will continue to beat the drum for Jared Goff when he plays at home. Per the FTN Splits Tool , Goff has averaged an elite 21 fantasy points per game at home since the start of last season. The Falcons will do their best to have their offense on the field for the full 60 minutes, but it’ll be hard to stop Detroit from putting up points – they’ve averaged 33 per game at home since the start of 2022 thanks in large part to Goff’s play. He showed out at home against Seattle in Week 2 to the tune of 23 fantasy points, and I expect something similar in Week 3.

FAAB: 3-4%

Superflex Streamers Matthew Stafford (30%) at Cincinnati Bengals Los Angeles Rams (+2) at Cincinnati Bengals, O/U 44 Rams Projected Points: 21

Despite having just one touchdown pass through two weeks, Matthew Stafford and the Rams’ offense have looked really good so far this season. Without Cooper Kupp , Stafford has ridden impressive connections with Puka Nacua and Tutu Atwell to nearly 650 yards in two games. His 1% touchdown rate is bound to increase soon, and it could start happening against a Bengals secondary that allowed 20 fantasy points to Deshaun Watson and 23 to Lamar Jackson . This Cincinnati team lost key members of its secondary in the offseason and it’s showing so far in 2023. Meanwhile, Stafford looks healthy, and he and McVay seem in sync and motivated again after a painful (literally) 2022. If Stafford is still out there in your superflex league, spend up a bit to get him because adding Cooper Kupp in a few weeks would only make him more reliable. In 14-teamers or bigger leagues, there’s a chance he becomes an every-week guy when his superstar returns.

FAAB: 3-8%

Kenny Pickett (30%) at Las Vegas Raiders Pittsburgh Steelers (-1) at Las Vegas Raiders, O/U 44 Steelers Projected Points: 22.5

Josh Allen just torched the Raiders, and while Kenny Pickett is miles away from Allen and the Steelers’ offense isn’t on that level, the Las Vegas defense is just not good. The Steelers and Pickett hype was probably too high heading into the season considering it was largely based on a few preseason drives, but a Week 1 matchup with the 49ers and Week 2 faceoff with the Browns isn’t a good barometer either. Pickett and company will go from two of the best defenses in the NFL to one of the worst which should help open things up within the offense and give the second-year signal caller a lot more confidence. Even without Diontae Johnson , he’s surrounded by plenty of weapons to exploit a weak stop-unit. In superflex and deeper leagues, don’t be afraid to take a shot on a breakout week from Pickett and the Steelers.
