The New Orleans Saints announced a restructuring of QB Taysom Hill’s contract Sunday, a move that would save them money against the cap and keep the QB around on the same day longtime starter Drew Brees officially announces his retirement. The report comes from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Saints are restructuring QB Taysom Hill’s contract to create cap room. Details are great: it’s a 4-year, $140 million contract extension - but all years are voidable and it’s a mechanism to free up cap space this year, per source. It saves Saints over $7.5M against cap this year.

Hill started four games last year, during which the Saints went 3-1 and he accounts for 8 total touchdowns (4 passing, 4 rushing).

Fantasy slant: With this move, the Saints save $7.5 million against the cap. All four years are voidable per Adam Schefter’s report, with Hill receiving a $9.6 million signing bonus. It looks like Hill will be given every chance to reprise his role as the Saints starter in 2021 — though it's worth noting this does not guarantee him the job in any way. During his four-game run as New Orleans’ starting quarterback, he was sixth in fantasy points per game at this position. Hill’s rushing upside is obviously his calling card and fantasy football money maker, but his passing numbers were also low-key good. Hill was ranked seventh in on-target throw percentage (79.7%). In Weeks 11-14, he was also 12th in clean passer rating (108.5) and third in deep passer rating (135.4). Hill’s upside in fantasy is immense if he's the starter, with Sean Payton calling plays and the skill players around him. — Derek Brown
